What wire sawing is

When a circular blade is no longer the practical answer.

Diamond wire is routed around or through a structure and driven continuously through the material. Because the cutting loop is not limited by blade radius, it can separate thick concrete, complex structural elements and heavily reinforced sections.

Wire sawing is not automatically the right method. We review the structure, access, lifting plan and required sequence before recommending an approach.

Wire sawing makes sense when the problem is bigger than the cut.

The correct question is not simply “can the wire pass through it?” It is whether wire sawing creates the most controllable overall method for separation and removal.

Concrete wire sawing

Mass concrete, foundations, walls, slabs and structural sections.

Wire sawing removes the normal blade-depth constraint. That matters on deep sections and unusual shapes where access may exist on only part of the structure.

Reinforced concrete

Concrete and embedded steel cut in one planned path.

Dense reinforcement changes cutting conditions and cost, but it does not automatically rule out diamond wire. Drawings and site information improve the review.

Steel / heavy material

Selected applications, subject to technical review.

Some heavy steel elements and composite sections may be suitable. Material, geometry, access and tooling must be reviewed before wire sawing is proposed.

Underwater wire sawing

Wire-sawing capability coordinated with qualified local diving support.

Underwater cuts require two specialist capabilities to meet on one project: a suitable wire-sawing system and a qualified commercial-diving crew. For selected scopes, our wire-sawing equipment can be deployed in coordination with qualified local diving contractors.

The diving scope, material, access, rigging and recovery plan are reviewed for each project before the method is proposed.

Why segmentation matters

The cut is only part of the project.

The size and weight of every separated piece affects crane capacity, lifting points, trucking, work-zone limits, schedule, cutting quantity and cost.

  • Can the crane safely reach the section?
  • Where will the piece move after separation?
  • Is there a hard weight or size limit?

Wire sawing FAQ

When is wire sawing used instead of a circular saw?+

Wire sawing is considered when concrete thickness, reinforcement, geometry or access makes a conventional blade impractical. The final choice depends on the whole removal plan, not thickness alone.

Can diamond wire saw through reinforced concrete?+

Yes. Diamond wire can cut concrete containing reinforcing steel. The reinforcement layout, section size and cutting conditions still affect the plan and estimate.

What information is needed for a wire sawing quote?+

Send the location, photos, drawings if available, approximate dimensions, concrete thickness, structure type, access conditions, lifting or removal limits and required timing.

Do you work outside Toronto and the GTA?+

Yes. Toronto and the GTA are the home base, and the crew mobilizes across Canada for large or technically specialized wire sawing projects. Travel depends on project scale, conditions and schedule.
